THE STORY
In hurricane and flood-ravaged New Orleans, Mardi Gras Indian culture serves as a pillar of African American community and a symbol of resilience and strength in the face of ongoing adversity. When the Big Chief of a prominent Indian gang dies unexpectedly, he passes the leadership of the tribe on to an unlikely candidate – his young grandson Michael. Unhappy with his father's decision, Michael's Uncle Tré forms his own Indian gang, challenging Michael as a Chief and as a man. Michael must decide how important it is to keep the flame of his ancestors burning. Is he willing to do what it will take to show that he is worthy of his calling?
